Dr. Ali Forbes brings over a decade of live sports broadcasting experience to the Moody faculty as a professor of practice. Originally from Canada, she launched her career at TSN1050 before advancing to a story editor role at SportsCentre in Toronto. Forbes has produced content for the PGA Live Network, SportsCentre, the Pac12 Network, ESPN and a variety of other sports media outlets.
While pursuing her master’s degree at Troy University, Forbes showcased her talent as a color analyst for men's and women's basketball on ESPN and served as the radio play-by-play announcer for women’s basketball road games.
After earning her master’s degree in sport and fitness management from Troy University, Forbes furthered her education at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University, where she completed her Ph.D. During her time at ASU, she taught courses such as Studio Production for Sports, Live/Event Production for Sports, Ethics and Diversity in Sports, Sports Marketing, and Advanced Issues in Sports Media.
In addition to her academic and broadcasting achievements, Forbes is currently producing a documentary chronicling the 1976 Canadian Olympics women's basketball team. Her work on this project highlights the team's groundbreaking journey and their impact on women's sports in Canada, showcasing her dedication to preserving and celebrating sports history.
Dr. Forbes' research delves into the intersections of sports culture and sports video games, with her dissertation focusing on the community within the popular video game NBA 2K.
